On a sprawling complex in the Hollywood Hills, this movie-studio-meets-theme-park blends a studio tour with thrilling action rides that swoosh, dive, swoop, and astonish with dizzying special effects. If Hollywood is the land of make-believe, then Universal Studios Hollywood is your chance to step into that fantasy world. Keep the Minion theme going by visiting the adjacent Super Silly Fun Land, which brings alive the carnival from the first movie with fountains, wet and dry play areas, and the classic-style Silly Swirly Fun Ride, which gives you a full view of all of the hijinks below. Try to win one of the movie’s famous stuffed unicorns in a game, or shop for them-along with character dolls and a “fart-gun” that really smells like bananas-in the Minion Mayhem gift shop. Even waiting to board the ride is entertaining, with multiple screens showing bits of wisdom from Gru and his right-hand Minions like Dave, Stuart, and Lance. And all that excitement ends with a wild dance party. The ride lets you into the home of the seemingly villainous (but otherwise hapless) Gru, where you bounce, plunge, and plummet through a Minion training mission. Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem is a motion-simulator ride: You sit, buckled into your seat, while the floor lifts and tilts and you seemingly careen inside a 3-D movie. I can't wait to get back for my next visit, and I promise it's not only for the chance to improve my score on Villain-Con Minion Blast. This colorful section of Universal Studio Hollywood is an instant hit with kids-and anyone else who has a soft spot for the banana-colored stars of the Despicable Me movies. For guests with young children, there is now even more the whole family can experience together, especially with the land being themed to such beloved characters. Minion Land brings even more family-friendly attractions and experiences to Universal Orlando, something the park seems to be prioritizing lately. You'll also find a variety of other Villain-Con and Minions merchandise like apparel, toys, phone cases and more. This store sells items inspired by the attraction, including a replica of the blaster you use on the ride. You'll find the Evil Stuff Shop at the exit of Villain-Con Minion Blast. Think of it as the more lighthearted of the two retail locations. Bake My Day is housed within the same area as the bakery and features cute clothing, stuffed animals, drinkware, accessories, keychains and more. There are two merchandise locations in Minion Land: Bake My Day and Evil Stuff. During the 48 hours I was in Orlando, I rode this attraction five times (and, yes, I did make my way into the top 10 villains for the day). As soon as I rode this ride once, I immediately wanted to go again to improve my score and earn a spot on the leader board. I am, to put it lightly, a competitive person. You can link your blaster to the Universal app in order to track your score each time you ride and unlock secret missions and special features for your blaster. Rather than a traditional ride vehicle, guests stand on a moving walkway and wield blasters to see if they have what it takes to become a member of the world-renowned Vicious 6 (the villainous group featured in "Minions: The Rise of Gru"). Illumination's Villain-Con Minion Blast is an action-packed attraction that combines screen-based animations and immersive physical sets to transport riders to Villain-Con, the international convention for supervillains.
